These days there is (thank goodness) a massive movement towards #selfcare and #selflove. This doesn’t always mean large, elaborate or expensive treatments or indulgences, but rather doing small things daily that soothe your soul. My latest #selfcare regime includes Robertson Winery’s latest bubbling edition to their range, a Sparkling Brut Rosé Wine. Because a “girl’s night” doesn’t always need more than just you.
Robertson Winery, true to its reputation for pioneering and innovation, has launched a Sparkling Brut Rosé Wine, the first in South Africa. Delightfully pink and dry with a vivacious sparkle, elegantly refreshing, charmingly drinkable and vibrantly packaged, the Robertson Winery Sparkling Brut Rosé is a perfect addition to the Winery’s range of popular sparkling wines.
Girl’s night in
Every now and again, we need to detox from our external environment, recharge our souls with peace and restore our inner equilibrium. I try to have a #selflove evening at least twice a week, although I very often fail miserably, because life moves at such a fast pace that we very often lose ourselves in the midst of the whirlwind.
My ideal girl’s night in would very often include preparing a lovely meal for one, a bit of personal self-care (a facial, hair treatment or a mani/pedi), a bottle of my favourite wine and maybe a bit of reading, writing or blogging. A lovely long(ish!) shower with my favourite body products, comfy pants and clean sheets dappled with a few drops of coconut oil. My favourite music playing softly in the background, and all the lights off, except for a few twinkles and candles.
I’ve found a new bestie in this beautifully pink sparkle. Served ice cold for maximum bubble satisfaction, a glass or two savoured whilst reading or writing is exactly what I need to unwind and regroup my overloaded mind. The lovely berry flavours and fruity fragrance makes me physically happy, as it reminds me of long summer’s days and memories made with loved ones.
It’s actually a scientific fact that you can boost your mood with “happy smells” which includes smells like food and wine. Smelling the right aromas can enhance how we feel, and if you fall asleep to “sweet” smells, you could influence the emotional tone of your dreams to be more positive! So bring out the sparkles and the body butter – your mind needs it!
Sparkling Brut Rosé
Tasting notes: floral and candied fruit aromas, juicy wild strawberry flavours that linger with each sip, a fine lively mousse and a generous aftertaste.
Approximate retail price: R60 – R65 per bottle, widely available nationally at leading grocers and liquor retailers
The Little Hedonist’s food pairing suggestion: Extra creamy slices of brie and prosciutto on sourdough toast. A decadently tangy cheesecake made with lashings of mascarpone cheese. Chocolate and berries, or even better, those Lindt chocolate covered berries! Now that’s self-care taken to the max! And if we’re talking real food – fish. Preferably salmon, but any buttery fish dish goes beautifully with this Brut Rosé. Add some wholesome goodness to the meal with a baby vegetable stir-fry with egg-noodles and a light honey-soy dressing.
Yes, this is first and foremost a wine review of a beautiful new release from Robertson Winery. But more than that, it’s a reminder, no, a request! for you to practice #selfcare and #selflove as often as you can. And also a reminder that self-care doesn’t have to be loud or big; it can be as simple as a few minutes of silence at the end of a long day. It can be as simple as a minute-meditation and deep breaths. It can be as simple as your favourite bubbles in a beautiful glass, enjoyed by candle light. Make time for yourself, because you are important.
Thank you, Robertson Winery, for reminding me to take some time out of this busy world to do the things that make me happy!
