{spirits} We all scream for ice cream: Four Cousins’ duo of Cream Liqueurs

With a brand new gorgeously elegant summer outfit, Four Cousins‘ duo of Cream Liqueurs are ready to join you on your December holiday adventures!

Introduction

I adore the versatility of cream liqueurs. On ice, in a naughty milkshake or poured over ice cream, it has a deliciously playful approach to life. My favourite time to enjoy cream liqueurs are over the summer holidays, when the scent of strawberries and sunscreen fills the air. A pretty glass filled with crushed ice and topped with an aromatic cream liqueur is surely what sundowners are made of.

Another of my favourites, is the Four Cousins brand. Leaders in innovation, creativity and producing sumptuous wines and spirits, they have recently earned their stripes by slicking down the look of their two cream liqueurs. Undeniably Four Cousins, most definitely delicious.

With the smell of ice cream and summer holidays in my nose, I was ecstatic to receive a duo of Four Cousins‘ Cream Liqueurs as a gift recently.

Background

The four Retief cousins joined forces in the mid-1990’s. One after the other, after completing their studies, they joined the family farm, Van Loveren. Today, they’re the driving force behind the company known for its diverse portfolio of wines, whiskies and, of course, liqueurs too.

Four Cousins launched its creams a decade ago. Now, Four Cousins Strawberry Fields and Four Cousins Marula Dream are set for the next 10 having literally acquired their stripes. The latest packaging tweaks see the return of the brand’s signature candy-stripes and make the creams unmistakably Four Cousins (press release).

Four Cousins’ cream liqueurs

There are two flavours in their current cream liqueurs range. Four Cousins Strawberry Fields is a rich and elegant cream liqueur with notes of summer strawberries and fresh cream. The taste of Four Cousins Marula Dream is proudly African and captures flavours of fruit from the indigenous African Marula tree.

Strawberry Fields is my liqueur of choice when it comes to adult milkshakes or ice cream toppings. In addition, I love sipping on the Marula Dream as a sundowner, or to add a cheeky dash to my holiday coffee.

We all scream for ice cream

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at home made ice cream. As I turned the sleek bottles in my hand, my mind drifted to the white, brown and pink stripes of neopolitan ice cream. Inspired by the colour palette and my ambition to make my own ice cream, I got a recipe from my beloved 1980’s edition of Kook en Geniet.

Beautifully simple, I ended up with a tub of Strawberry Fields ice cream, and a tub of Marula Dream ice cream. Not enough to colour the ice cream in the iconic pink and brown colours of my childhood neopolitan version, but enough to be nostalgic about it. The creaminess of the liqueurs carried through into the ice cream, with aromatic notes of strawberry and marula escaping as you scoop balls of naughty goodness into cones.

And just because I was halfway there, I threw in a pan of my gooey chocolate brownies for good measure.

In conclusion

A household name brand you can always rely on for quality products, I might have to replenish these two Four Cousins‘ cream liqueurs before the full swing of summer.

The versatility of these cream liqueurs doesn’t end there – in fact, there are endless ways to enjoy your favourite “pudding-in-a-bottle!” Embrace the budding mixologist in you and experiment with some beautifully creamy poolside cocktails, or an icy tall drink to cool down with?

Thank you so much, Four Cousins, for giving us such an iconic drink to enjoy whichever way we choose to this summer!
