{connect} An apple a day: SA Olive EVOO apple loaf

Summer is all about celebrating the abundance of easy-eating, super nutritious fruits. I’m particularly fond of the humble red-cheeked apple. So much more than just a lunch box filler, the addition of fresh apples to my SA Olive EVOO loaf ensures wholesome snacking and oodles of taste!


Constantly looking for ways to incorporate the versatility of extra virgin olive oil in The Little Kitchen, I’ve found that it has become a trusted staple in my pantry, especially when I’m baking. Adding dense moisture and that signature fruity aroma to any baked goods, EVOO is a baker’s best friend, keeping indulgent cakes and treats as healthy and wholesome as possible.

Inspired by Greek apple bread (milópita), this loaf could easily absorb any seasonal fruit, as long as it has a texture similar to apple (apricots, dates or pear), but I personally love the classic combination of apple and cinnamon. With a few basic ingredients, a little bit of time, and a generous glug of SA Olive EVOO, you will be pulling a steaming apple loaf from your oven in no time. Just be careful not to burn your fingers in the haste to slice it!

I enjoyed my apple & olive loaf bread with a voluptuous smear of salted butter, but I think it would also be equally delicious with slivers of creamy blue cheese or a mature cheddar.  Deliciously light and almost melt-in-the-mouth, this loaf is loaded with wholesome nutrition, vitamins and antioxidants, thanks to the addition of EVOO.
