{recipe} Espresso Old Fashioned Cocktail with Society Coffee

July 19, 2026

Call me a classic kind of girl, but my most favourite drink is an Old Fashioned. The combination of the whisky’s smooth vanilla and citrus notes, combined with bitters and brown sugar syrup is simply a decadent sip.

But, unwilling to give up my icy cocktails over winter, I’ve warmed up the Old Fashioned with the addition of a sachet of Society Coffee Original. Creamy, frothy and beautifully aromatic, the sachet acts as a velvety double espresso addition to the cocktail, lending a warmth and a dreamy languidity to the drink.

And please don’t be scripted by my classical approach; you can add any Society Coffee sachet to your Espresso Old Fashioned, to create your own coffee shop experience at home.  Society Coffee offers a range of 100% Arabica, instant cappuccino and mochaccino sachets made with beans sourced from Colombia. Vanilla for a sweeter approach, Mochaccino for some added cocoa, Hazelnut for a more earthy taste or the Caramel Toffee to turn your cocktail into dessert.

Espresso Old Fashioned Cocktail with Society Coffee

Makes 2 drinks

Ingredients

  • 4 shots of your favourite whisky
  • 1 sachet Society Coffee Original whisked with 2 shots of warm water until dissolved (allow it to cool slightly so it doesn't melt the ice too quickly)
  • 2-3 dashes of Chocolate or Orange Bitters
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Your favourite chocolate truffle for garnish

Instructions

  • Mix your Society Coffee sachet with the water until dissolved and frothy.
  • Add the whisky and Society Coffee mixture to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake it up until thoroughly mixed and cooled.
  • Strain the mixture into a glass over a single large ice cube.
  • Add your chocolate or orange bitters to taste.
  • Garnish: Twist the orange peel over the cocktail to express the citrus oils. Add your chocolate truffle and enjoy!
